Michel,

>If you wish I completely ignore this thread, just say so.

Likewise, if you wish me to ignore the UT entirely I can take my question answering efforts elsewhere. I would think you'd be a bit more interested in finding out a fix that can help the users of the UT.

What I really want is to finally figure out why this error occurs, it first reared its ugly head about a year ago (and the thread I started at that time went nowhere too) when I moved to an NT4/IE6 machine. It's still a problem on this new Win2k/IE6 machine.

>Your first message was written in a way to target us directly as if this was something we implemented in order to make your life more difficult and such. I answered your message even if it was not done in a productive way.

The UT is the only website where I've ever seen a problem like this. The UT uses explicit target=_blank links which open new windows, I don't have any control over that. That is a design decision that you made for this website, and it does cause some people problems.

>My latest answer says that the default settings work for me.

Have you taken a look at the settings I've posted so far and checked for any possible conflicts in those?

>So, it is a suggesting that you reset everything to default.

>Fabian also proposed you install a brand new patch. That might help as well.

Win2k is fully uptodate as is IE.

>Well, I just read a message from Fabian that says you're the only one. Despite the fact that this is not a reason for me to ignore it, it goes against what you just said.

Let's see, 3 or 4 other people have said they don't see this particular problem, so it doesn't exist? Perhaps it's more just the case that any others that are having the problem haven't seen this little thread in the chatter forum where you've located the UT support category.

>We don't do any magic here. We simply store a really simple session cookie in your browser's memory for as long as you remain on UT. As to know why it dissappears when you open a new window, I just don't know. Like I said, something external is causing that and that is something I just don't know as it's local. To open the list of possibilities larger, I would also consider any 3rd party tools that intercept the behavior of the browser to be a potential issue here such as Zone Alarm, Norton Security, etc. We name a few in our technical guidelines. Basically, anyone using such tool and who would enable most of those features will probably have difficulties to work on the Internet as it basically intercepts everything. So, that wouldn't surprise me that this could be a factor here. Do you have one of those installed? If not, I would go as suggested for an update and with the default settings. If yes, I would disable them, and see how it goes.

The error occurs when the new window is closed, not when it is opened. As long as I don't close the new window the original one continues to work. Can you provide a link to the technical quidelines?

Our network uses Sophos anti-virus I don't see how that can interact with session cookies. I can not disable Sophos. We do not use Zone Alarm or Norton.
