>We have created a form that uses the Winsock control to retrieve the IP address for all PC's attached to a network. This IP address is then used to control the shutting down of our application from one central location for program updates. On our two test systems, one NT 4.0 with Windows 98/2000 PC's and the other Windows 2000 per-to-per it works fine. When we installed it at our customers site the winsock object fails to instantiate (fails on the CreateObject), so the IP address cannot be picked up. We have tried manually registering the Winsock control and it says that it was successfuly installed.

Neil,
Let me clarify for myself. You created a form class and dropped a Winsock control on it. When you try and instantiate the form class, the object fails. Is that the scenario? This should work.
However, if you are trying to instantiate the Winsock control using the createobject() function, it will fail (by design) on your client's PCs. Your clients do not have a developer license for Winsock so the instantiation fails. This is explanined in MSKB#
