>Well, I'm here at another Devcon. I've only missed one (1990). However, I'm about fed up with Advisor on these. They like to put us in what would be a resort area if it weren't off season. I believe they do that because they can get the rooms for a song and re-sell them to us at a premium. (The room here is $139 per night plus taxes, which works out to a little over 150 per night).

I'm fairly certain that Advisor doesn't make anything on the rooms that attendees get. In fact, typically, a conference organizer guarantees a certain number of room nights and then gets various perks based on that (such as room nights to use to house speakers).

Advisor uses resort areas off season because they believe people want conferences at resorts and the room rates in season are way too expensive. I (along with a number of other speakers) have told them that they should look at other venues. I think it would be helpful if lots of other people told them that, as well.
