If all the VB developers were to switch to C# then all off a sudden the C# team would need to please 80% of users that have a completely different agenda (i.e. RAD) from the typical C# agenda (i.e. performance).
You hit the nail on the head...this is how the C# team feels...they prefer to keep C# "clean", compact and performant, and prefer that developers who are more interested in RAD features (that may hamper performance) use VB .NET.
