By golly, you're right! I didn't notice it because I always use the close button on the designer. I can't begin to imagine why the close option on the menu has been disabled in VFP8. Seems like an oddball thing for someone to have gone to the trouble to do.

>Thanks - Just checked - the close button on the form designer will close it. It was stuffed in the upper right of the screen and I overlooked it. I have always used the close option on the file menu in the past and evidently that is disabled in VFP8 but not in VFP7.
