I asked originally about the following:

TCPView shows the following when Visual FoxPro 8 is running:
vfp8.exe:2460 UDP BL-ATHL-824965X:1114 *:*

I later discovered that what is shown here is on the left the current process ID which is assigned to VFP 8.0 when it launches; and the number on the left:
MACHINENAME:PortNumber
is a port number assignment.

The bizarre thing is, this port number will VARY every time VFP 8.0 launches. Right now it is running as follows:

vfp8.exe:1116 UDP BL-ATHL-824965X:1478 *:*

i.e. process ID = 1116, port = 1478.

For the heck of it, I stopped VFP and restarted it. This time:

vfp8.exe:2744 UDP BL-ATHL-824965X:1517 *:*

Soooo. What is VFP 8.0 using that port assignemt for? TCPVIEW never shoes it WAITING (listening to offer service) or ESTABLISHED (a dialogue has been established on the port), but I have not watched it extensively while using VFP.

Note: I noticed all this because I was afraid my workstation had been hacked, and was doing some forensics. I also when installing VFP 8.0 with ZoneAlarmPro running have observed that as part of the install process VFP 8.0 will try to call home to an IP number at Microsoft. I don't know yet if this is related.
