Hi Jim,

>
I'd like to create a 2nd CDX containing only the tags needed for the 2nd form, so that the associated CDX will be as small as possible. During the busy season, we have about 20 people pounding away on this data entry form and it tends to slow down at times as more users are creating records in the table.

You can have additional non-structural indexes but they would have to be in use whilst records are being added/modified if they are to remain up to date. If the slowdown is due to the time it takes for indexes to be updated then I'd guess having two seperate CDXs would be slower than having one.

However if most searches are done on a single index then the idea of hiving off other indexes into a non-structural CDX is an interesting one. Logically if the file supplying the index key is smaller I'd expect network traffic to be reduced - but I must admit I don't know how well this would work in practice.

Maybe someone else will chip in but if you decide to experiment with this I'd be interested in your results.

Regards,
Viv
