And then, if the tricky thing will not go where you want it, just delete it and put another back in where you want it.

Try clicking on that top edge between the buttons and see if you can get a handle on the separator. Then you can drag it to the line between two buttons and it will pop in place. Once you get the hang of it it isn't too bad, but I have shared your frustration.
