I'm not surprised that System didn't work. I believe that System has not network access at all.

If you log onto the sql server computer using the same credentials that the MSSQLServer service uses, can you get to the file server?

Another option would be to backup to the local HD and have a job that copies the backup devices to the network.

>Yeah, that's what I thought. And it does -- sort of. When logging into Windows NT, the server automatically logs into the Netware server using the same username/password and that works fine. The netware server even shows up as a primary node under Network Neighborhod like other windows servers (as opposed to under Entire Network/Netware ...). But obviously the internal authentication varies somewhat. My guess is that SQL Server is attempting some NT-type authentication to the netware server and failing.

>>>Hello,

>>>In SQL Server 2000 I would like to set the backup file to a volume on a Novell server (from there to tape). However, I can't get SQL Server to see the volume. When I go to add the file name in Enterprise Manager, the mapped drive doesn't show. Entering the path manually with drive letter or UNC pathing doesn't work either.

>>>I am logging into the Netware server (with the MS client for netware) with the same username/password as I logged into the NT4 server, which is the same username used for the services for SQL Server and SQLServerAgent.
