Hi Simon,

Here's how I reached that conclusion...

Once VFP8 was published it was evident that the CURSORADAPTER was a critical (based on comments here) new feature of VFP8.

So I decided to extract all of the supplied documentation on the subject into a single Word document using simple cut/paste.

When I was done it amounted to a 70 page Word document, even after I had eliminated clutter (like "see also" lists and space between subjects) and reduced title fonts significantly (thanks to Word-XP's 'reveal formats').

I call 70 Word pages 'extensive' for a single new topic. Now after reading your reply I've gone back and had a closer look at it.
I note that approximately 4 pages of it are dedicated to 'function overview(s)', 49 pages are used for description of all the related PEMs (syntax, parameter descriptions, examples, etc.), 7 pages to sample code and the balance to the "Walkthrough" content. I think I found all of it < s >.
I any case, after looking at it in that light, I must agree with you that it is not as "extensive" as I first attributed!

I know that early on, before I consolidated it all, I had to ask basic questions about the functionality (like 'CursorAdapter sounds real good, but how/when/why would I use it') and got good information in reply from DougH, AlekseyT and yourself.
I can also say that, in the time it took me to consolidate it all I noted several basic questions coming from the UT's more 'seasoned' member, so I decided that I would "let all the dust settle and wait for Europa" before I contemplated using it.

I am still of the opinion that CURSORADAPTER() IS a critical function for the future of VFP. It will be a real shame if MS does not use all of the questions/replies from the UT (and other sources) to inform themselves of the deficiencies in the current documentation and correct it for Europa.
Of course MS has had this "detection mechanism" available to them for years now and has made no real use of it. Hopefully the CURSORADAPTER is recognized as critical and this one will change that policy.

In summary, while it may meet the volume criteria for extensiveness I agree with you that it remains significantly deficient.

cheers

>Perhaps I have failed to search deep enough but I did not think the CursorAdapter documentation was extensive. Can you provide a few more details about where you found this info in VFP8.

>You are correct that Aleksey has been a great help and it would be wonderful if the information he has provided was in the documentation. He helped me in a number of ways when I could not find the answers in the documentation.

>>>
>>>Well, yes. The snag is how on earth could the documentation include everything, and if it did, how could ever find anything? :)
>>
>>Agreed, it's a problem. But that rationale becomes a damned good excuse for doing too little too. I think that's where the real problem lies.
>>
>>Look at the CURSORADAPTER() documentation in VFP8. It is fairly extensive overall. Yet that single topic has dominated much of the VFP8 category since delivery.
>>Clearly, though already extensive, it is lacking. AlekseyT has been fantastic is clearing up many things, but if all his efforts remain only here and do not make it to documentation enhancements his relies will really have very minor long-term value.
