The expression builder I'm talking about is in the report when you add a report textbox and next to the expression that you would type into there is a command button with "..." and when you hit the "..." next to the expression it brings up the expression builder and at the bottom it has a list for fields but that's only populated if you have the tables in the reports data environment.
