It seems like many young people of college age like the concept of being as far away from home as possible. We have a few nice schools not too far from us like Stanford and U.C. Berkeley as an example.

Our daughter completed high school and attended the University of Massachusetts (Amherst). She called home several times a day, and ended up coming home. Now she is about to begin her third year at UCLA. At least she is in the same state as we live in!

Our son is like me and he stayed in the area and just completed college in June.
