In my experience, it's a lot easier to work with the Btrieve (now called Pervasive) ODBC driver rather than working with Btrieve API calls. I've also use a product called DBFTrieve that makes working with Btrieve much easier than using API calls, but it's still a lot more complex and requires a lot more code than using the ODBC driver.
