Mark - Thanks for all your suggestions. I had NOT been setting the listbox value, as you suggest: >* Next line is very important to move ListIndex to where you want it >.Value=myTable.Name && Assuming boundcolumn is Name is 1 perhaps that was my problem. I wonder how you would select the correct SMITH in a table with 50 SMITHS, with the bound column being just the last name. But all of this discussion has stimulated my thinking and experimenting, and I finally came up with a solution that behaves exactly as I want it to. It's not generic enough to bother reporting it here (I ended up setting the RecordSourceType to an SQL statement for various reasons), but I do want to thank you for your input and suggestions.
