Both work with VFP but transfer rates are rather slow compaired to SQL server. Use TCPIP protocal for best transfer rates. Other 3rd party drivers are also available. For direct record access IBM is working on a product based on ADO. I know there are a few other products with direct access based on API interface but I don't have their names.

In fox 2.6 we used the StarSQL Odbc driver and the foxpro connectivity kit and fpsql.fll to read and write to an AS400. A few teething problems as I got to grips with the concepts but I wrote some good stuff which has run standalone for a year.

(All gone to ^&%$ now they've upgraded the AS400 server but we'll nut it out)
