Hi...
We've been running a Visual FoxPro application, with the client application on individual computers, accessing database files on a 'regular' computer that although dedicated to these databases, was not actually a piece of 'server' hardware. We decided to purchase a real 'server' piece of hardware, with dual processors in order to improve performance. The hardware does not come with an operating system loaded on it.
What advantages does a 'server' operating system like Windows 2000 Server confer over a regular operating system like Windows 2000 Professional in this context? The new server will again be dedicated to holding the databses and to running smaller apps (in a continuous loop)to poll other systems we have for information.
