Hi Claude,

Most of the Internet service providers offer website hosting including your own cgi-bin directory, so I think it is still a very popular way to go. Also most offer perl, php, asp, mysql, MSSQL, postgres, Msql frontpage extension, etc. Php is widely used in building database applications; although, I prefer perl with it Apache::DBI and DBI (e.g. Database Independent Interface).

I think stability and efficiency are more highly valued than raw speed when it come to an mission critical 24/7 web base application, as Internet inferstructure and bandwidth are still the limiting factor in most cases. Com/DCom might be a little faster, I've seen some test that would give it a 10% edge, but it tend to use more memory and can be more volitale. If a Com/Dcom app locked up a system twice a day causing a need for a reboot, this would be a show stopper and I think that is why most ISP will not allow a com/dcom .dll on their servers.

Even Microsoft seem to be moving away from com/dcom in favor of .Net that is based more on a lava like approach. I question Microsoft long term commitment to com/dcom.

I know you have invested alot of time and energy with your project and the FoxPro community is indebted to you, especially since FoxPro is com/dcom based rather that .net based. Keep up the good work. Your solution would be ideal for a VFP expert that wanted to host his own site, but also realize that there are other equally capable technologies that might be the right choice for someone that needed true interoperability between platforms when developing an application, and cgi-bin is still very fast, stable and robust. It may not be a capable as enterprise java, but with the additional functionality and options to impliment your java app however you like come additional complexity. Net is simpiler, but it implements using one standard way to write the code.
