>>There are two incidents within the last hundred years or so that involved France and the United States. France failed at building the Panama Cannel and the United States took over the project. The second item involves the war fought by France against Vietnam, and financed (85%) by the United States, which the French left and the United States took up.

>>The term “Turn about is fair play” seems appropriate. Now it is France’s turn to bail us out! I suggest we leave Iraq and let France take over. Let the French pay for everything – money and bodies included.

>If it wasn't for French involvement in the War of Indepence, there might not be a USA. Yeah, you guys are even.

Evan;

My last sentence is not aimed at you but rather the leaders of the United States and France.

Well, I was not counting all the incidents of who did what for whom or who owes what for any particular reason.

Under the French Monarchy France assisted the British Colonies to become independent. That assistance was indispensable for the United States to become a nation.

During the American Civil War the United States helped Mexico with arms to fight the French, while the Confederacy did what it could to assist France.

World War I in 1917 saw Germany winning and then the United States entered the conflict. This allowed the Allied Forces to win the war. When the war was over the original battle line begun in 1914 had shifted 100 yards, at a cost some say 58 million lives.

World War II was another time we assisted France, which was an occupied nation at the time.

Disregarding the actions of the present United States Federal Administration which has basically destroyed relationships and treaties going back for as much as two hundred or more years with many nations, I consider France to be an ally. Friends do not concern themselves with who owes what to whom. The minds of little men will consider such thoughts.
