I don't know about the existence of such a file, but it wouldn't be a bad idea. I myself have sent printer codes to the printer, for fast printing in text mode. My class for text-reports has printer codes for a single type of printer, namely, Epson dot-matrix printers (fortunately, the codes are quite similar between the different models).
According to my observations, text-mode printing is often used, especially in developing countries, for fast and cheap printing.
