PMFJI, but have you given the VFP documentation a look? MS has committed themselves to since 7.0 to thinking of the manual as a feature and not just a chore. The MS help people have become very involved in the docs and people do report documentation bugs. So, IMHO, the manul has improved over the versions. 8 is even better than 7. There is a lot of very good information in the manual geared to not just the syntax but also address the legitimate questions you raise.
