A good post, however with some of your points, I disagree.

1. I think you are expecting to much from the job ad. That is the point of the interview process. For the company to find out about you, and for you to find out about the company.

2. Believe it or not there are ALOT of developers out there that are not involved in the 'Community'. There are Fox developers that have probably never read a book on Fox, very few that I would like to work for. However, I am sure there are alot of good folks that just aren't involved in the 'community' vocally but are out there. It does take time to post.

I just think, if you skip opportunites cause you have to do a little research, or maybe spend half a day at the place, you may miss a good opportunity. Granted, you may determine right away, you don't want the job. Heck, tell them that and get out of there, don't waste their time.
