As an E4 in 1964 I made $3.30 a day. Combat pay was extra. One month before the end of your enlistment (1967) the commander had to give you a discussion about reenlisting. As he pointed out all the benefits I would express my experience to the contrary. This infuriated the commander!

After the CO was finished with his session he said, “I am going to put in your permanent record that you have a very negative attitude Airman”!

I then replied, “Sir, does that mean I will make a good civilian”! He screamed for me to leave his office immediately, which I gladly did. I really enjoy being a civilian by the way. :)
