That's still not what I'm seeing. To check whether it might be a refresh problem, I opened Word. Then, I open the Display Properties applet and changed my Selected Items color from purple to red, clicked Apply. I switched back to Word and opened a menu and the highlight was Red.

I don't know why that's not what you're seeing.
