Seriously, if the guy understands coding, has a valid reason for making "his" standard one that almost no one is using and is willing to bear the cost of making the changes and fixing the problems that it may cause, I would try to persuade him otherwise but at the end of the day, if he demands it, he is the boss and I would comply and hope for the best.
