Thank you, Sergey.
While experimenting with your solution I discovered that this only occurs when the General Field contains a .JPG file. The .BMP pictures in a general field work fine in all OS's. Both JPG and BMPs were set in "File Types " for "Windows Viewer", and I changed them to "Paint". The BMP files still worked fine, and the JPG files didn't.
I can force users to go with BMPs for XP compatibility, but that's not ideal. So I will experiment further. Any other ideas?
Again, this is General Fields with JPG images in reports in XP only.
>>This report works fine printing pictures on all OS's except XP.

>>The images are stored in general fields. But when running on XP the report prints the file name instead of the picture: like "C:\Images\Mypicture.bmp".

>>Does anyone have any data on this or a workaround?

>Go to Control Panel -> Folder Options -> File Types tab and check what application is associated with BMP files. If it's nor 'Windows Picture and Fax Viever' or Paint, try to change it to one of them.
