I don't think that the purpose of these boards is to enhance the market standing of VFP. They are for support. For the most part these forums provide a venue for people to seek assistance for problems they have day to day and they do a good job of supporting the community.

However, one aspect of these boards/communities is also to put forward ideas. Otherwise, why have a chatter section at all. I am not selling against VFP at all. If I was against VFP do you think I would have re-written www.foxforum.com in the last month or so (In ASP.NET and SQL Server) ?

I am not trying to promote my .NET work here at all. I don't need to sell anything to the people here. Some people here look to see which way the wind is blowing. It is blowing to .NET and in other spaces to the Linux/Open Source world. I try to be forward thinking and even in the VFP community have always talked about using other technologies/tools: Cold Fusion, SQL Server, Visual Basic and ASP to name a few.

Your assumption about the amount of VFP work I do is correct. I don't do too much VFP at all now (by choice). But that does not mean I am not a member of the community. I still have VFP products, still run a VFP web site and still read (and sometimes post) threads here.

I am in a learning phase too. If we weren't in a constant learning mode we should choose another profession like accounting<g>.

As for the current state of VFP (features, bugs) I could go on and on here. IN MY OPINION, VFP hasn't had a real compelling upgrade since 6.0 Which is why a lot of my clients are still on 6.0. Are there some features that are nice: yes. Is it worth the hassle to move to them? Not really (once again in my opinion).

As for whether VFP is dead. No it is not dead. It is on life support. The VFP market is in decline and has been for many years. In all good concience I could not recommend VFP for any NEW development projects.
