I just assumed he was having problems marketing his services. There are a lot of popular VFP based solutions out there. Three reasons something don't sell
1) No market for the product (too niche or too verticle) (end users are not buying vfp - they're buying what we build with VFP).
2) The product sucks - cn't compete
3) Saturation

Do you have a fourth reason for poor performance in a given market?

Pardon me for jumping in but I'd like to take a stab at answering this...

4) Customer perceptions (i.e. "My nephew says MS Access(tm) is easier to develop programs than MS Visual Foxpro(tm)." or "I heard from a friend that Visual Foxpro is a dead-end language and I don't want to be stuck.")

Single field, surrogate primary keys....because it's sexier!

Third normal form is more than just a good idea.
