I have may have not stated the problem correctly. I have a VFP program that I did not write nor do I have the source code too. The special program requires two parameters (table NAME, index NAME) and then program then does a bunch of stuff and returning. The problem is I want it to process only data that have a PK containing a "S". So I either create the required table and index (that matches my filter) to pass to the speical prg or somehow create an index that acts like a filter. I really don't know how to make an index act like a filter. So I decided that I would create the table and index but it takes alot of time to create the index due to the size of the data. The passing of data etc. takes place without user interaction - so I can't ask the user to limit the data at the time of the transaction.

So I have decided to limit the data based on date. The client doesn't like it but realizes I can't change the way the second program works.
