Since everyone else has answered your questions on caching, I would like to add a workaround that I've used to speed up the form loading process for the user. Once the form is instantiated the first time, when the user selects to close the form I hide it instead. Then everytime the user opens the form again it is just made visible so it is instantaneous. This means that all methods of opening forms have to be modified to determine if the form is already available or not so you can determine if it should be opened or just made visible. Also, when closing the app you have to step through all open forms and close them all at that time since many may be open but just not visible. In some apps, I've even shown a splash screen while loading all forms and hiding them at app startup so that even the first time a user opens a form it appears instantaneous.

>Hi,
>It is my understanding that vfp6 will cache forms. The first time I open a form it may take .5 seconds. If I close the form and then reopen the form it might only take .09 seconds. At least this has been my experience with VFP – am I wrong? I have a client that is running a VFP6 program on a Novell network and no matter what type of form I create (even forms that have no data requirements) it always takes the same time to display the form. Depending on the form it takes between 3-10 seconds to display. I find this surprising. On my network the form is cached.
