The "competition" seems to arise when people act smart because they changed their tool preference. I'm not talking about you; there just seems to be a certain type of person who comes in here giving out the scoffing and "hehehe" as if they are superior because they decided to prefer dotNET.

John - who are you referring to here? It can't be me because I don't scoff or say "he he" to people that prefer VFP over .NET. I understand this may be your impression, but looking at things objectively, I don't do that.

IME dotNET isn't so difficult to learn or use. It's just big- like eating a whole cherry pie is big- doesn't involve anything particularly difficult, it's just so huge and every so often you hit a cherry stone that got missed when the pie was made(!)

That is an interesting analogy. FWIW, I agree with you and it is one of the big disagreements I had with Steve Black - who professed that it would take 18 months of ramp-up time or so to get productive with .NET. IMO, THIS (emphasis added) was the FUD.

IMHO a certain amount of balance is needed. Education, awareness and "making haste slowly" seems to be an appropriate response, if that's what people want to do. It doesn't mean they are lumpen fools who need to be lectured over and over like the most exasperating sort of dullard, which seems to be what some people round here seem to think is indicated for anybody who still likes VFP. Just press the UT back arrow a few times and you'll see what I mean ;-)

But what do you say to people who lecture those who are contemplating .NET? You do realize that often - when .NET is considered or put in a positive light - and especially when a company decides to displace VFP in favor of .NET - a lecture extolling the virtures of VFP is soon to follow.
