The reason for this is simple. This country was settled by the Puritans. Why did they settle here? Simple, they got kicked out of England because they were too uptight.

So why do we have this seemlying enormous contradiction (nudity - no, violence - yes)? Do not forget that the Puritans had a couple of "sporting events" like stoning people to death and burning them at the stake.

I think this explains things nicely.
