in Java, you could do GUI interfaces - but it is faling in the enterpise the same as VFP/VB/C++/C# GUI interfaces. The thin client, web-portal based development is a predominant approach to get to the enterprise development. And you could do it with VFP as good as with Java or C# - and nobody will tell the difference, and nobody would care what tools were used on a backend; you could even mix and match them in the same project. The main thing - do not create any monolitic gigantic components, which VFP and VB developers used to create in the past.
