my need of the tag has to do with the SET DELETED ON environment rather than the FOR clause. SYS(3054) shows the queries to be optimized with the extra DELETED() tag and only partially optimized without it.
I could change the VFP code to work with SET DELETED OFF and get rid of the tag, but I'm hoping there is another way to make the Access connection.
