I'm a (not so) newly converted myself. The fact is that is the true regarding security. You can acheive security for DBF tables using encryption tools, though.
OTOH, I love VFP and I use its engine extensively. Offline data, dynamic reindexing (why bother server?), local joins, and a lot more.
The truth is that are database engines far more advanced that VFP data engine. Rushmore is called "query optimizer" and is based on same principles. But this doesn't make VFP less valuable, IMO.
