I have to somewhat disagree with this statement. Encryption tools only cover one aspect of security, someone stealing the data. If someone wants to do you harm then they don't care about the contents of the data and encryption does help stop someone doing a replace all field with "ZZZZZZ" to screw you up.
Not to jump on you but I've had several people on here say encryption solves security problems when it really just stops prying eyes, not those that just want to do damage.
