Hi Dmitry,

You know the line...

...it depends!

I am not an expert on the details relating to images, but here's what I think I know.

If you are using black and white images, then GIF may get you the best compression. I've heard arguments that creating GIF files requires licensing from UNISYS (free, but a hassle). I'm not a lawyer and don't quite know how to respond to that, but others have told me to either endure the hassle of getting a license for GIF, or just use PNG images.

If you are using color images, then JPG may be your best bet. And you can control the bit depth, you may be able to get away with reduced quality and save on your file sizes and nobody would know the difference. Again, I've had recommendations from people who deal with images a lot, and they tell me PNG is a pretty good option. But I've never tried to print a PNG image from FoxPro so I can't comment on that.

Bottom line is do some experiments for yourself and see what you can get away with.

Guy
