After I responded, I thought I should've asked you if the keyboard has a Macro Key. I've seen something similar in the past when a user inadvertantly depressed the macro key. It was a real pain trying to find out how to disable it.

You might try setting (or re-setting, if it's already set that way) it to US, though I don't really think that will help (since that was quite long ago).
