Hi Jordan,

Disagreement is fine - makes life interesting < s >

I understand that it served a purpose for you.

But my 'issue' is that I don't think it belongs in the "News" of UT, in the Main Page.

Have you ever heard of "A23 Consulting" and "Dash Point Labs"? Do these organizations publish reputable and reliable and accurate "technical" studies in the database field or the enterprise field or ???

I'm not so sure, MYSELF, that this has ANY merit other than as an advertisement for MS SQL Server. I PERSONALLY get the impression that its publication has much more to do with an impending improved release of MySQL that covers many of the "issues" raised and that this was wanted to be published BEFORE such things happened. Setting the article's conclusions in peoples' minds NOW helps to assure that they commit to SQL Server and (later) disregard propaganda regarding OTHER database systems.

I assume you are aware that a similar article in the Nov/Dec 2003 issue of CoDe magazine. That article was written by Rod Paddock, Editor of the magazine AND President of "Dash Point Software Inc." and I couldn't help but observe the similarity between that name and "Dash Point Labs".
It is my PERSONAL opinion that both articles are intended to 'damn MySQL with faint praise' (i.e. commend so frigidly as to suggest disapproval) and I believe this to be the real purpose/intention of the "article". That being my opinion, I continue to believe that it does NOT deserve a spot in the UT's Main Page as "news".

cheers

>>I don't think that the article "Technical comparison of MySQL.... vs. SQL Server 2000" is at all worthy of a spot as "news" on the UT main page!
>>
>>It is one big advertisement in favour of MS SQL Server disguised as an "article".
>>
>>I find it disappointing that such an "article" can make it to the UT Main page and urge its removal asap.

>Hi Jim
>I am not fully agree with you.
>A few week ago I past through this article, but I lost the link.
>I have a customer who like my firm to re-write SQLServer2000 code in MySQL4.1. Finding this article again I show him that MySQL do not support Stored Procedures and in this case we should add a COM which to do what they do. This was not acceptable for him and he stop to bug us with this requirement.
>Yes these articles sometimes looklike advertisemen, but sometimes they present weaknesses and advantages of some product.
>That's why one of my favorite articles is "Choose the right Microsoft database for your development needs"
