I am not fully agree with you.
A few week ago I past through this article, but I lost the link.
I have a customer who like my firm to re-write SQLServer2000 code in MySQL4.1. Finding this article again I show him that MySQL do not support Stored Procedures and in this case we should add a COM which to do what they do. This was not acceptable for him and he stop to bug us with this requirement.
Yes these articles sometimes looklike advertisemen, but sometimes they present weaknesses and advantages of some product.
