We have exactly the same experience. Even had one client drop MAS90 after a hefty investment because our accounting was better. I hesitate to state up here on this forum that we have written and sell our own accounting package because a lot of folks act as if you "just grew horns" and cannot believe you would not just go with accpac.

Personally I liked the challenge and I like having the accounting integrated with the rest or our apps, not the other way around.

BTW, we are putting the finishing touches on a payroll system. One of our clients ($400M +) was tired of paying the fees for an external service, especially the float they were using.

Nice to hear someone else is doing things similarly.

However I take your point, The great marketing machines of Quicken and MYOB roll on and soak up a huge amount of the market, but this in itself creates great opportunities as these packages often do not suit the mid range business and they look out for more flexibility.
