If you have one Excel visible, but there are two Excels in the task manager, then you probably did not close one of them properly from your program (perhaps leaving some excel objects or related variables not released).

>I have a VFP8sp1 app on my users Win2k machines that uses GetObject() to grab some highlighted cells from an open Excel spreadsheet to do some work with. Sometimes my program chokes and claims Excel isn't open, even though it clearly is. If I look in the task manager I see two instances of Excel open. If I shut down the visible instance, one still remains. This confuses GetObject() something terrible.
