Mike,

>It appears that Intellisense takes a lot of set up work to make it useful. Right now the stuff that comes up is almost laughable. Like if I type MODI FORM it offers me form names in a completely different subdirectory from where I am currently working with the full directory name. Stuff that I may have worked on a week ago. I have yet to see it suggest something that I have worked on the last hour.

Hmmm, the MRU (Most Recently Used) feature is one of my favorites. Can't count how many keystrokes it has saved me, for instance, on typing CD{spacebar} in the command window and just choosing from the MRU directories presented there.

You can control how many items are displayed there by Tools -> Options -> View Tab -> Most Recently Used List contains ___ items, which can be set from 0 to 24 (you'll probably really like 24). :-) I haven't noticed the problem you mentioned, but maybe someone else will have an idea.

>Anyway, I will let this thing play with my mind for about a week and see how I feel then.

Take two aspirin and call us in a week. :-) I believe you will like it by then, maybe with a little more fine-tuning.

>Microsoft routed me to a knowledge base article on how to rurn off Intellisense permanently but it only works on VFP 7.0, not 8.0. The Tools |Options gives no control over Intellisense but Edit | Properties lets you turn it off for the current session, then it comes back on with the next launch of VFP 8.0.

I think someone pointed you to the Intellisense Manager, where you can control many aspects of it. For example, if you don't want the syntax of commands displayed as you type, you can use the options on the first page of Intellisense Manager to set QuickInfo to Manual, then use CTL-I when you WANT to see it (can't remember the syntax or options for a command).

Or, in the case you mentioned of BROWSE FIELDS, you could leave QuickTips set to Automatic, but disable the record in FoxCode.dbf that controls it for Browse. To do that in Intellisense Manager, click the Browse button to the right of List Members to get a browse window of all the FoxCode records, scroll way down to the "C" type record that has "BROW" in the Abbrev field and set the Type field to "X" (X is currently not used as a valid type). That will disable the popup info for BROWSE command but leave it intact for other commands.

With just a few adjustments like these, you can fine-tune it to something less jarring and actually begin to enjoy its many benefits. As George mentioned, having Intellisense available when working with objects (dropdown of properties and methods when you press ".") is a real charm.

Good luck!
