David:
Thank you for your very thoughtful reply.
Actually I had set "Quick Info" to "Disable" and that made no difference in the dump following "BROWSE" but I changed it to "Manual" and this works perfectly. In this environment, nothing comes up unless I press CTRL+I as you already mentioned.
Your message was guiding me to be more selective about turning off the "Quick Tips" but I have been scratching my head to think of one command where I would want a Quick Tip.
My code is full of stuff like IF ELSE ENDIF, DO WHILE, FOR J = 1 to 10, GO TOP, LOCATE FOR, USE and SELECT. Its really pretty basic. I honestly can't think of one piece of code I write where I would need a Tip.
The CD feature is interesting but again I tend to work on only a few projects at a time. So I know where my MRU directories are but I will keep CD in mind.
Now you mentioned Object Oriented Programming. I still have not found a need for OOP. I make all my screens with the PEM sheet where I already get the available properties on pick lists. I have not had an application where I could not accomplish anything I wanted with Procedural Code and a Visual Screen. In fact, I am now on a plan to take my methods from inside my screens where possible and put them into .prg files. I find the debugger works better this way and I can get things done faster in this mode.
So I may be one in 10,000 programmers who has no use for Intallisense.
But now that you have shown me how to turn off the Tips, I think I will only need a few aspirins during my trial period to see if some redeeming feature will present itself.
