You mean consciousness and being self aware? Or just as being able to function, like animals do? Or being able to function like lower animals, maybe virii or bacteria?

Do you equate consciousness with "soul"?

My answer is yes. Although I cannot explain what it is, yes I do have a consciousness, and free will. Yet, I do not believe in the religious concept of a soul that can be damned or punished and go to hell.
