If one was to make a totally false accusation, it's possible, but it is more likely they will be sued for libel. But then, politicians here are use to this kind of thing; they almost feed on it.

The only situations I can imagine where a foreign journalist would be expelled from the US are:

1) evidence the reporter is really a foreign agent (spy)

2) subversive activities, such as publishing lies along with instructions for all American Muslims to rise up and overthrow the government -- and even that is pretty much protected speech unless it starts getting some results.
