Alvin,

Unfortunately, there is no simple, concise step by step guide to setting up replication because there are a lot of options, each tailored to the needs of your system, and each equally neccessary for successful replication. There are a lot of published "Bibles" if you want to try one of them out.

Also, replication is not a "setup and forget" deal. It requires active managment to make sure that it is running correctly.

SQL Server 2000 replication doesn't differentiate between Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition, so I would concentrate on other areas to solve the problem.

Perhaps we can work through getting you started via this thread:

1. Is the database home-grown or a part of a vendor supplied system?

2. What is the purpose of replicating the data (disconnected/distributed updates, redundancy, or reporting)?

3. How big is the source database (# of rows, GB)?

4. How often is the original database updated?

5. Are the updates inserted records, or updates of existing rows?
