I think one of the reason for using c# for middle tier is the performance(slightly better than vb.net) and another one would be the fact that, according to a language roadmap I saw somewhere on ms site, c# will focus less on UI but more on services. The bottom line is that this architecture gives me the opportunity to work with both:).
