The problem of the client not wanting to change the OS to a supported is simple to solve, just advise them that an problems encountered will be chargeable. Windows ME is a Home edition, tell them to take it home.
If they insist you are probably better off not having them as a client, as you can waste a huge amount of time chasing ghosts in a buggy OS.
