>QB 4.5. This repair is to resolve an "out of string space" issue (KB76512). THe solution is to swap dim data to a "single" var name! What suprized me most (while researching the error) is how many others are are still using and repairing QBX system (book is real good on "dead language":-) platforms.

Never worked in 4.5. Went to Fox while I was working in 4.0.

Used a package called Mach 2 that could let you do things with the interrupts.

One thing I remember was that I got some stack overflow errors during compiling. The workaround was to replace commonly used literals with global constants. For example, I defined 0 as ZERO and 1 as ONE.

One story that might be of interest. Back in the 80's, Borland was a big competitor in the BASIC market with their Turbo BASIC. In order to combat this MS assigned two teams to get the next version of QuickBASIC to market. The team that finished first, was marketed as QB 3.0. Six months or so later the other team finished and that became 4.0. It's probably the shortest period between major releases in the history of personal computing.

Is the story true? Don't know, but from the events, it would seem so.
