Hi Tracy,

Jim Nelson mentioned the legal aspect of this on the WWC forum and so I responded there that the owners of this firm have had the apps pre-approved by the various life insurance co's. But that was a "pre-approval" 8 or 10 years ago and small changes have been made to the apps over the years without "formal" subsequent approval. Having been prompted by Jim, I also checked if the application becomes part of the final contract between the life co and the end-user and in contrast to what I knew before, in some cases it does and so it does need to be "legal" (in some cases, the insurance co. processes the data and the information is then printed out for the client to re-sign and that becomes the sole basis of the contract between them.

Anyhow, this opens the can of worms a bit and so I will need to revisit this with the company I am doing the work for - in the end, it might be less legal hassle to do as you were initially doing - scanning the app in as an image and then overlaying fields onto it. If I could just get the Adobe rep on the line sometime now....maybe I could get some answers on all their products (when I go to their site, I think it is just called "Adobe Designer 6" whereas their rep referred me previously to a product called "Adobe Output Designer 6" which I think is the product that works with their server based products?)

Thanks for all the great input!

Albert

>Albert, since you are in Canada it may not pertain to you but here in the states you can actually create legal problems using any form however precise that has not been pre-approved by the state department of insurance (or board of insurance depending on the state). We submit the forms to the carrier and to the board and once approved use them. When we purchase the forms from ACORD they are already approved.
